Griptex is a fine-grade aggregate that is sprinkled onto the paint film to create a non-skid surface. It is important to apply a light, smooth coat of Awlgrip first, and then to allow the topcoat to flash off for 10-20 minutes until the surface is slightly dry but still tacky. Then, sprinkle the Griptex onto the paint film.
If you own a boat with an Awlcraft 2000 or Awlgrip HDT finish, it’s important to use a product like Awlcare Protective Polymer Sealer to help maintain the gloss and protect the finish. Awlcare is applied and buffed by hand, and should never be applied or buffed with a machine.
How long does it take for Awlgrip to cure?
The Anticipated Cure Time at 77°F/50% RH is 24 hours to tape free; 3 days to light service; 14 days for full cure. This means that it will take 24 hours for the adhesive to become tack-free, 3 days for it to be ready for light service, and 14 days for it to be fully cured.
If you want the smoothest finish possible, spraying will give you better results than brushing or rolling. However, you’ll need to do a bit more cleanup afterwards. Many Awl Grip paint products can be sprayed using a gravity-feed spray gun, but this will require more thinning than using a pressure-feed spray gun.
How do you remove scratches from Awlgrip
When mixing your Awlgrip HDT color, be sure to follow the product data sheet closely. Apply Awlgrip HDT over the damaged area, covering all of your 400 grit sand scratch on your first coat. Allow to flash off before applying your second coat. The second coat should be applied over your first coat and half way into your 800 grit sand scratch area. This will help ensure a smooth, even finish.

Just pour a quarter size amount of soap into your palm, take your dirty brush and scrub it in circular motions. Press and scrub really hard to work the soap into the bristles, then rinse your brush and repeat until the soap suds are clear.
How long before Awlgrip can get wet?
Because the days were getting short, we had to use an accelerator. Unacellerated Awlgrip will take about 16 hours to dry at 70 degrees.
Once the bristles are clean, do not soak them. Use a Purdy Brush Comb or Brush and Roller Cleaner to straighten bristles and place in its protective keeper.
Can you repair Awlgrip paint
If you have damage to your Awlgrip, some of it can be repaired. We can usually tape off the damaged area and blend it into the surrounding paint. Now we’re gonna start applying paint we’re gonna use the rolling tipping method. First you roll on the paint in a big M shape and then you go back and fill it in. Then you use a small brush to tip off the paint.
How do you remove Awlgrip overspray?
Boat Clean Plus is a great product for removing overspray and cleaning vertical surfaces. Simply wet the surface with water, spray on some Boat Clean Plus, and scrub with a Marine Power Mitt. If some specks still remain, apply Boat Scrub, full strength to the mitt and scrub them away.
This is an excellent adhesive for use on a variety of surfaces. It provides superb adhesion to properly prepared fiberglass, steel, aluminum and wood. It can be used above and below the waterline.
Can you Wetsand Awlgrip
If you are looking to get the best possible finish on your Awlgrip or Awlcraft2000 paint job, don’t wet sand or buff it. Instead, just enjoy the finish for what it is and know that it will likely only last for a couple of years. After that, you can always have the paint job redone.
